Why is the ACD working one day and the next there is misting on the windows? Some misting is to be expected when it is very cold outside. However it will go away a lot quicker with an ACD installed. Even the ACD’s with heaters inside, in extreme conditions you may have to supplement this with good home heating, like a Heat Pump. The heaters in the ACD are designed to take the chill off the air NOT heat the home. Tempering the air coming in, makes the home easier to heat.
There feels like there is cold air coming in. Why is this? On really cold mornings you may feel colder air if the heating in the home is not sufficient. A home’s temperature should not drop below 16 degrees, however many people live in iceboxes. Having a heater facility in the ACD eg ACD3, is a good way around this. Even though the heater may be running, it may feel like colder air is coming in. Please be assured it is tempered air.
Do I need to have the heater switched on all the time? When the heater is on all the time, it will only operate when the temperature in the roof space drops below 15 degrees. It is not necessary to have the heater running all the time. You can manually turn it on when needed. You will however, notice that you may have small amounts of condensation on some windows (particularly the south side of your home) when the heater in the unit is switched off overnight.
How close to a smoke detector should an air outlet be placed? The answer varies with the circumstances. Typically we place our outlets in the passage/hall ceiling, increasing air pressure in the passage. This flow drifts to all parts of the house it can enter and is constantly replenished.
With a flow velocity of 90L per second, measured at the periphery of the diffuser, 52L per second at 0.5m from the diffuser and 15L per second at 0.75m, air disturbance is barely measurable at 1m.
It follows that smoke produced in the passage will be disbursed in the areas surrounding the diffuser, and a detector within 1.5m of the outlet will be much less effective, e.g. a longer time and greater smoke concentration will be necessary to sound the alarm.
A detector is advisable in each bedroom, as the likelihood of fire is greater in the bedrooms than in a passage.
An air system outlet in a passage ceiling would have no effect on the operation of a bedroom-mounted smoke detector.
SUMMARY: Detectors should be 1.5m to 2m distance from their outlets. What is the difference between you and DVS? We have a similar product to DVS. Our models are specially designed for anti-condensation and are made in New Zealand. What is your month Money Back Guarantee on ACD’s? HomeTech offer a 12 month money back guarantee on ACD units. What does it cost to run? A non heated model costs the same to run as a normal light bulb.
The heater models will cost @ 1000 watt = 1000/1000 per kilowatt @ $0.10 / unit = $0.10 / hour = $2.40 / day. Remember this is only when the temperature drops below 15°C. We recommend the heater is used manually.
Why is my ACD turning itself off? “The last three nights when I have got home, it has been so hot in my attic that my ACD has switched itself off?”
It's quite normal and designed to shut down when the temperature in the attic rises above 27 degrees.
Also can be used to cool the house as when temp drops below 27 degrees it starts up. So if the attic is cooler than the house, it has a cooling effect. What is the Micron Rating of the filter? The EU4 rated non-woven polyester artificial fabric is non-shedding and Is graded at 1 to 3 microns, and will hold particles as small as 0.5 micron, or 1/2000mm (O.OOOOSmm). Perfect for asthmatics or those who suffer from allergies. What is the Life of the Filter? The patented Driver full flow filter is unique in a number of ways. Its cylindrical configuration increases surface area offered to the atmosphere and greatly improves airflow distribution. This results in a longer life span. Filters should be inspected annually, and if no longer white, washed gently in cold water with a minimum of detergent, dried naturally (not tumble dried) and refitted. Vacuuming may suffice where a filter is slightly soiled. Why does my ACD not work in Summer? The system has a 27 degree upper limit thermostat to stop bringing too warmer air into the home in times of hot weather. Once down below 27 degrees, the ACD will start up again. Probe and advise. I have Condensation on my windows yet I have an ACD system? No system will ever completely eliminate condensation; you may experience some slight misting when weather conditions are extreme. If you have a heated model, it is recommended that you turn the heater on especially overnight. Similar to your car windscreen demister – it will clear without heat eventually but if you turn the heater on, it will clear a lot quicker. Has the filter been changed or cleaned within the last 12 months? This will also cause some slight condensation to re-appear. Why, when the heater in my ACD is on, does the air coming out of the outlets feel cool? Often the air can feel cool, this is due to the sensation experienced as the tempered air dries the moisture on your skin. The Heater in my ACD is not working? The Heater light is not coming on? This could be one of two things initially. The Overheat protection has been tripped over the summer months. This is a simple fix of pushing the button for the overheat switch which is clearly visible on the unit in the attic. OR - the Filter could be clogged and not allowing the fan to push the micro switch paddle across. Another simple fix - change or clean the filter! |
